Is it REALLY a Good Idea to Burn the Koran? Updated 04/02/2011
62Matthew 22: 34-40
34 But when the Pharisees heard that He had silenced the Sadducee s, they gathered together. 35 Then one of them, a lawyer, asked Him a question, testing Him, and saying, 36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?”
37 Jesus said to him, “ ‘You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”
Tonight I watched the interview on CNN with Terry Jones. If you do not know who Terry Jones is let me tell you. He is the Florida preacher who is planning to burn the Koran (the holy book of Islam) on September 11 to protest against Islam. I the interview Jones said that he is for peaceful Muslims in the United States, but is trying to send a message to the radical Muslims that are over seas. My question for Terry Jones is “Have you every read Matthew 22: 39?
Whether we like, or not, Muslims are our neighbors! We don’t have to like, or agree with the message of Islam but we are still commanded to love them. The burning of any holy book of any religion is not a sign of love but a sign that the devil is in our lives! What Mr. Jones is doing in Florida is not love to his neighbor, and certainly is not Christian!
I am trouble that Mr. Jones stated in his interview since they (Islam) burn our flag, and burn our Bible overseas then it is time America does the same to them! Whatever happened to the Golden Rule , “Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets .” (Matthew 7:12)? Or “To him who strikes you on the one cheek, offer the other also. And from him who takes away your cloak, do not withhold your tunic either.” (Luke 6:29)?
I am not going to waste no more time on Terry Jones, and his foolishness! I am going to say that we, as Christians, do not fight the devil at his level. We are going to have people push us, slap us, spit on us, try to bring harm to us, and burn our Bible in front of us. But it is not our job to return violence with violence. “If your enemy is hungry, give him bread to eat;
And if he is thirsty, give him water to drink; For so you will heap coals of fire on his head,
And the LORD will reward you. ” (Proverbs 25: 21,22)
Whenever we want to go after our enemy, and pay them for the crimes the have done to us lets remember this verse:
Hebrews 10: 30,31
“30 For we know Him who said, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord. And again, “The LORD will judge His people.” 31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.”

On Saturday, September 11, 2010, Pastor Terry Jones said on CNN News that his church was canceling the Quaran burning that was scheduled on that day!
This doe not mean that Pastor Jones was going to completely do away with the Koran burning! On Sunday, March 20,2011, Jones decided to have a mock trial for the Koran, and found it guilty! He then had it burned!
He know takes no responsibility for the death overseas!

This is a great post. By trying to get revenge we'll just end up fighting back and forth forever and make things worse. But by treating others better than they treat us, we'll inspire them to treat us better too. It'll surprise them.
Thank you Yankee, if all people have same respect there wouldn't be any problem. We have to be against any kind of violence and if you read my hub-be peace maker- you would see how I like peace makers. Any way, thanks for Terry Jones-the preacher- he change his mind and didn't burn the Quran. This is great hub, I voted, useful and followed.

I like what you have written but, disagree with a little of it; the part I disagree with is:
"I am going to say that we, as Christians, do not fight the devil at his level".
This is a little ambiguous could you clarify who is that sentence being directed at?
Hi,
Very interesting hub.
Basically my beliefs are a universal kind without being affiliated to any particular religion. But I have the deepest respect for any of the holy books we have. For me the problems don't lie with any of the holy books the problems lie with some people's, what I would think, is false interpretations. I think evil hearted people will see in their holy book what they want to see and disregard the rest about love thy neighbour and so on.
