Why Say God Bless vs. Good Luck!
69One of the phrases that comes out of a Christians mouth, that makes me furious, is "Good Luck!" To me when somebody in the Church says "Good Luck!" it always sound like their is some sarcasm, or jealousy behind it.
I will never forget the time that I was moving out of state. The church that I was attending just had a many of it families move, and many of the predominate church members were get concerned. When it was time for me to move most of the members said to me "Good luck!" I was at that time I realised just how bad that phrase sounds when it comes from Christians! It almost sounded like they mad at me for moving!
It is not the experiences that I have had but, what ours have experienced! One friend of mine was offered a better paying job. He was so happy that he was going to be making more money, and that he was going to be able to spend more time with his family. I was standing next to him when another Christian walked up to him, and said "Good luck with the new job! It is unbearable for me to think that other Christians have to sound so jealous!
Am I wrong for wanting to be blessed by God? Am I insane for wanting God to bless others in their lives? Is it stupid of me to believe that those who take up the name of my Lord, and Savior to wish God's blessing, and good will on all people? I WANT TO BE BLESSED, AND I WANT OTHERS TO BE BLESSED AS WELL!
Here is the definition of Luck from Dictionary.com:
1. the force that seems to operate for good or ill in a person's life, as in shaping circumstances, events, or opportunities: With my luck I'll probably get pneumonia. 2. good fortune; advantage or success, considered as the result of chance: He had no luck finding work. 3. a combination of circumstances, events, etc., operating by chance to bring good or ill to a person: She's had nothing but bad luck all year. 4. some object on which good fortune is supposed to depend: This rabbit's foot is my luck.I personally like to have God's blessing be upon me than leave everything I do be left to chance! Before I go I would like to leave this blessing for you:"14 May the LORD give you increase more and more,You and your children.
15May you be blessed by the LORD,
Who made heaven and earth.
16 The heaven, even the heavens, are the LORD’s;
But the earth He has given to the children of men." Psalm 115:14-16
May the Lord God bless you in all that you do!

I have to respectfully disagree. I once heard a great sermon by a very renowned Minister. He did the sermon on blasphemy. His claim is that if we run around saying " God Bless this " or " God Bless You " or " God Bless that " we are actually committing blasphemy unless these " Blessings " are done while in prayer and with reverence.
To me and this is just my thought. I would rather someone say " Good Luck " with a pat on the back than an "unfelt God Bless". My suggestion would be, shrug it off and don't pay any attention to it. Let it go and don't be so petty. There are bigger problems in this world to think about and pray about.
Personally, I pat people on the shoulder and say " Take Care" and walk off. It just ain't that big of a deal...
I use "take Care" also. I have a Jehovah Witness friend who is also offended by Good Luck, or a toast at a happy occasion. She also feels that God rules what happens, not luck. But I don't think people mean it in a sarcastic or mean way, that never crossed my mind until she mentioned it. Then I read here you feel the same. The person is trying to wish another one well. Everyone doesn't have the same way with words, or feel like you do. They mean well, so try to take it that way. Take care.
Dear yankeeintexas,
As a minister I hear the expression “good luck” quite often and on many occasions it’s from Christians. The thing that I have to keep reminding myself of, is this… all Christians are in the world. Fact is they spend most of their time there and were all a part of its system before coming to faith. There is a lot of baggage and influence that comes from the world with them; bad habits that are hard to shake. Not all Christians are aware of everything they do and even when we are we still all fall short. The Church, its leaders, and every follower of Christ must bear in mind that our reason for existence is for the making and perfecting of the saints. That means witnessing, sharing, encouraging, and teaching from “God’s Word.” When we discover our brothers and sisters in their faults; which we will do, there are things that must be considered. The instruction from Christ concerning forgiveness (Matt. 6:14-15), is a good place to start whatever action that’s put to use. There are many who have been led down paths of deception, and although well intended are still not following the pattern and example of Jesus. Just because they don’t intend to be wrong does not make them right nor does it excuse them (Luke 12:47-48). Combined these two scriptures with this passage, and we have a better understanding of the situation.
Hosea 4:6 (NIV)
my people are destroyed from lack of knowledge. “Because you have rejected knowledge, I also reject you as my priests; because you have ignored the law of your God, I also will ignore your children.
As I said before, it is our responsibility as the “Body of Christ” to present the knowledge of “God’s Word” and not the influences of the World. Sanctification does not happen overnight, and will never happen unless we all lend ourselves to the process with the gifts given us through the Holy Spirit.
Blessings”
For me if its not in the bible I will not use it. It ought to be this way for all Christians. God bless you is biblical but good luck is not biblical in fact it has its origins from Satan

Your right. "Good luck" you take it as jealousy. But for me it demeans the power of God. So I never use Good luck before parting with some one. I encourage other to use "God Bless" instead of "Good Luck"... there is no more fortune or unfortunate for the children of God.
