That is Strange!

Many people in this world believe that their house haunted! I wish I could say I was truly one of them. I will say that most places have a reason for being haunted to people. Whether it is history, story, or tragedy some people are just convince that a place is haunted. Before I tell you my strange experience let me tell what I know about ghosts, and haunting.

First, most hauntings have some sort of story, or legend attach to it. If you think of places like the Winchester Mystery House, and The Stanley Hotel have some kind of weird stories that will make you believe that they must be haunted.Think of the construction of the Winchester Mystery House, and the fact that Sarah Winchester had séances makes for a pretty good case for a haunting. The author Steven King wrote a book around the Stanley Hotel. So, some might believe that these places could be haunted!

Also, some places might have a tragic history. For example Gettysburg Battlefield, and the Alamo. These places have a bloody history attach to them. Gettysburg was the site of one of the bloodiest battles of the Civil War. The Alamo was the final resting place for many Texans as they fought for independence from Mexico. Both sites have stories of soldiers still fighting battles.

Finally, some places have been the site of satanic, or pagan rituals. The Hellfire Caves in England are among the most famous haunted places that are related to satanic rituals. It being the home of the notorious Hellfire Club. Their rituals, and possible human sacrifices give the place a horrible reputation.

It is also possible for a place to be "Haunted" by the environment. What is normal to one person could be paranormal to another. In the house that I grew up in was nearly 150 years old. The wood in the structure was constantly swelling, and contracting during the day. Our family knew the knocking and bang was the shifting of the house, or air in the water lines. None of these were the caused by ghosts, but a visitor who never had such experience may think that my house was haunted. Uninsulated wiring will produce E.M.F. (Electromagnetic Field) which can make you feel nauseous, and have hallucinations.

Now, I am a Christian, a God fearing man, and a bit of a skeptic. When I here of haunting I try to find a reasonable explanation before I cry “Ghost”. Also, those who know will say I do startle easy, but I don’t get unnerved!

What I am about to tell you may not scare you, but the experience itself made the hair on the back of my neck stand up!

Just after July 4, 2010 west Texas had several days of rain. During one of these night I was at home playing a computer game in the living room of our ranch style house. It was late and the kids were in bed asleep. My wife was out with her mother, and the dog was laying on the floor next to me.

It was raining but not very hard. I could clearly make out the reflection of the wall behind me in the window like I was looking into a mirror.

At around 10:30 pm I was well into my game! The dog began to acting as if somebody was walking around. As usual I reached down and began to pet her. As I sat up I was startled to see a black figure standing behind me in the reflection in the window. I stared at for a moment and saw it move to my right.

I turn around and saw nothing! By this time the dog was standing in front of the television looking at me. I got up and checked on the children to see if hey were in their beds, and they were. I figured I was just getting tired from playing the game so I put away the computer. I turned on the television to watch a movie.

At around 11:30 pm the dog started restless again. I leaned over and petted her to get her to relax. When I was done I turned to get a glass off the table when I saw it again. Through the reflection in the window stood a shadow like figure standing directly behind me. I stared at it for a moment and then moved to my right. As it moved I could see the reflection of the rest of the room clearly.

To be honest I was FREAKED OUT! Although I did not scream I was for that moment terrified. By the time I turned around whenever was their was gone. The dog was in front of the fireplace acting as if she saw the same thing I just saw.

When I spoke to my wife about what happen she said that she had similar event in the living room as well. She also said that she had heard footsteps in the hall when everybody was outside.

This was my only “ghostly” experience. I have since fasted, and prayed that if it was something not of the physical world that it would be removed so that we can have peaceful lives.

Many times I have ran that night through my head. I still look for reasonable explanations to what I had seen that night. I have kept many things in my mind on what it could have been. I thought of the refection of my own shadow to the lights outside of the house. I will continue to look for explanations to what happen for a very long time. I don’t think I can say that my house is haunted but, for right now it was a very strange event!
